Profile Photos

 Have
you ever wonder how do people put up photos or screenhots
of themselve under their profile pages? It's fairly
simple but requires a few steps in getting it done:-

Take a screenshot of your
avatar and save it as a image file. |

Upload the file onto a web
server that provide a link to your image file. |

Copy and paste the link in
the field under your profile page. |
Pretty simple, isn't it? I'll go through the steps
in detail on getting it done.
STEP 1
1a. Firstly, change your View
to Face View for a close-up of your avatar. One
thing to note is that if you don't want the blue
circles (if any) to appear in your screenshot, switch
to Default Action Mode under World settings to remove
them. To take the screenshot hold on ALT-PRTSCRN
(usually on top on the Insert button). An advice
would be to not run There at maximum screen size.
There runs only at 800x600 resolution, so if you
are running at 1024x768 on your desktop, There would
appears in a smaller window on your desktop. This
would shorten the time needed to switch between
There and other program. In this case you would
need to switch to another program to save your screenshot.
1b. Next, you will need to save your screenshot
into image file. To do this you will need a graphic
editor program. Most commonly used are Adobe Photoshop
and Macromedia Fireworks. Open a new file and Paste
(Ctrl-V) it onto the new file. You can now edit
the image all you want, and remember to set the
size to 135x95 as this is the only size that will
show properly. Any other sizes would lead to distortion.

STEP 2
This is why we are here! Most people
search for free host to upload their files, some
just upload to space provided by their ISP. But
do you really want to go through all the FTP stuffs
just to get a few files up? "What is FTP?"

STEP 3
 When
you have uploaded the image files, you are now ready
to put them up under your profile page. Simply copy
the link provided under the Basic Account menu,
and paste it into the field on your profile page.
If you still wish to host it elsewhere, all you
need to do is to access your image on the web using
Internet Explorer. Right-click on the image and
select Properties, copy the Address (URL) (eg. http://www.yoursite.com/
youracc/yourfile.jpg) and paste it. Try an example
on my avatar image on the right!
That's it! Update your profile and the photo will
appear! Have Fun! |
